Sam’s Club has officially announced their plans for Black Friday 2020, making them the latest retail to confirm store changes headed into the holiday season during a pandemic. Given the ownership, it is very likely that Walmart will see similar if not nearly identical plans announced soon.

One-Day Savings

Sam’s Club says that its biggest days for holiday shopping were its One-Day Savings events that took place in November and December. This year, Sam’s Club is mixing it up a bit by offering several new sale events:

  • Beginning Oct. 4: October Savings Event
  • Oct. 28 to Nov. 29: November Instant Savings
  • Nov. 7 to Nov. 15: November Savings Event; extended from one day to nine days
  • Nov. 20 to Nov. 29: 10 Days of Thanks-Savings; extended from four days to 10 days
  • Nov. 30: Cyber Monday Online-Only Savings Event
  • Dec. 1 to Dec. 24: December Instant Savings
  • Dec. 5 to Dec. 13: December Savings Event; extended from one day to nine days

Sam’s Club has also confirmed that for their November sales events, they will be mailing members a giant savings book on Oct. 21 that will address all of its November savings. A second book will be mailed in November to convey all of the December events.

More savings

Sam’s Club also announced, in very vague terms, a treasure-hunt model that will “be on full display this holiday as new products are added in clubs.” The treasure-hunt model will also be featured online, though no information is given as to how.

Pandemic shopping

Sam’s Club also used the release to remind consumers that they started free, curbside pickup earlier this year and will continue to do so at all of their locations. Shoppers can also pick up any online orders in the store, though curbside is the better alternative for those still not wanting to head into crowded stores.

Sam’s will also be offering a new service titled “Ship from Club,” where members in select clubs will be processing online orders and shipping directly from the store rather than a warehouse. Items shipped from stores within close proximity to the shopper will arrive in a speedier fashion.

Unexpected moments

In very vague terms, Sam’s Club also announced that they are planning to offer members “unexpected moments with celebrities and experiences that play on nostalgia and fun.” The ad refers to social media channels, so it is a bit unclear if any of these new experiences will be taking place in store or just on social media channels.
