It wouldn’t be 2020 without a major change to the holiday season! Amazon has announced another big change to the way their holiday season will unfold by starting the holiday return window in October.
Traditionally, Amazon has run their holiday return window from November through January. For the 2020 to 2021 holiday season, Amazon began their holiday return window in early October and will allow any items purchased to be returned up until Jan. 31, 2021.
This is a huge opportunity for many shoppers as it provides comfort in knowing that early purchasing of gifts will be eligible for return.
Price matching and returns
Amazon does not offer a way to price match items. Shoppers can contact customer support, but it is extremely rare to receive a price match, even during the holidays. As a result, shoppers are capable of rebuying the item at the lower price and (as long as the original is eligible for a return) returning that and keeping the newer (and cheaper) item.
This extended holiday return policy is great for shoppers’ peace of mind, as it allows purchases made in October to be returned and rebought if a lower price pops up later in the season.
Amazon offers several ways to return items, with the easiest being Kohl’s or UPS dropoff. For dropping off returns at Kohl’s, shoppers don’t even need to package up their return. Just take the item to the store, find the designated Amazon return area and have your Amazon-provided barcode ready to go. For UPS drop-off, shoppers will need to package up their return.
However, due to the pandemic, shoppers wanting to stay at home can also schedule for (usually free) UPS pickup the following day. You cannot leave the package outside for UPS to pick up, but UPS drivers should arrive in a mask and wearing gloves to pick up your return.
