When Prime Day falls in July (like it usually does), we always see other sales crop up from major retailers to compete (a phenomenon called Black Friday in July). Turns out, Prime Day falling in October is no different. A slew of other retailers are running sales right now during the week of Prime Day.
So which one (or ones) should you stop? Our team of deal hunters analyzed the discounts from Amazon Prime Day along with deals from “competing sales:” Walmart’s Big Save Event, Target’s Deal Days and Best Buy’s pre-Black Friday sale. Here are the best deals for each retailer — and which types of products you should buy from each this sale-packed week.
Amazon Prime Day
Prime Day runs 12 a.m. (PST) on Oct. 13 to midnight (PST) on Oct. 14, making it 48 hours long.
Top category to shop: smart speakers and Amazon’s own devices
As always, Amazon offers some of the best deals of the year during Prime Day on its own product lines. This year, Amazon’s offering the lowest prices we’ve seen on the Echo Dot ($18.99) and the Fire HD 10 ($79.99).
Walmart’s Big Save
Walmart’s Big Save event started on Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. EST and ends on Oct. 15.
Top category to shop: home and kitchen appliances. Walmart is offering some nice discounts on small appliances during this sale. While these deals may not be thrilling tech buys, they’re things you’ll use every day.
Target Deal Days
Target’s Deal Days mirrors Prime Day, running through Oct. 13 and 14. All deals will be live for the entire two days.
Top category to shop: everything for the home, from furniture to small kitchen appliances to vacuum cleaners.
Best Buy’s pre-Black Friday sale
On Oct. 13 and 14, shoppers will be able to purchase a dozen of Best Buy’s Black Friday deals from its upcoming ad, as well as other deals.
Top category to shop: TVs and home theater. Best Buy is releasing some Black Friday-level pricing on TV sets (you’ll find a 70-inch screen for under $530), as well as offering discounts on high-end home theater equipment. Runner up: vacuums. You’ll find hefty discounts on iRobot’s Roomba 960 robotic vacuum and on the Dyson V10 Animal Pro cordless vacuum.
